How can we turn CO₂ into valuable materials? What does it take to scale up green hydrogen production? Can we design tomorrow's catalysts, polymers, and processes for a more sustainable future? If you're ready to combine chemical insight with process innovation, the Master's degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Groningen is for you!
✔ Choose courses within themes such as Catalysis and Renewable Energy & Chemical Products
✔ Combine applied chemistry with process and product engineering
✔ Contribute to real-world innovations in energy, materials, and sustainability
✔ Conduct research in cutting-edge labs with a strong focus on green technology
✔ Explore academic, industrial, or policy-related career paths with flexible programme profiles
This international two-year Master’s programme prepares you to tackle global challenges by merging fundamental chemistry with large-scale industrial applications. You’ll learn to design cleaner chemical processes, develop advanced materials, and apply catalytic and polymer technologies for a circular economy.
The curriculum includes a shared core and a choice of various electives. Your main research project takes place in one of our expert groups in Green Chemical Reaction Engineering or Chemical Product Technology , where sustainability is always central. Combined with the company internship this sets you up for a career in industry or academia. This programme equips you with the knowledge and experience to innovate in fields like clean energy, materials science, or process design.
