Applied Mathematics
Are you good at mathematics and eager to use mathematical insights to help solve practical problems? Are you looking for a small-scale, academic programme, in which you will penetrate the depths of mathematics, while also equipping yourself to use your knowledge for developing real solutions for people and society? Then the three-year, English-taught Bachelor’s in Applied Mathematics (AM) is the right choice for you.
From day one you will engage in the abstract and formal aspects of mathematics, always keeping in mind its practical applicability. You will become familiar with calculus, linear algebra, probability and much more. At the same time, you will engage in applying the theory. One way of doing this is modelling: using abstraction to reduce complex problems to their essence, as described in mathematical terms, and then using mathematical analysis to identify solutions to the original problem. Modelling requires skills that you will gradually develop through the different learning lines that run through the programme. These learning lines include abstract mathematics, mathematical modelling and practical skills – think of programming, (intercultural) collaboration or presentation.
You will become a mathematician who has mastered to perfection the cycle of abstraction, analysis and solution, and who can easily participate in interdisciplinary teams. This means you will be able to make a substantial contribution to solving tough societal problems.

- Exam form - jeśli jesteś teraz w ostatniej klasie liceum i nie masz jeszcze wyników matur to konieczne jest załączenie dodatkowego dokumentu - informacji o przedmiotach zdawanych na egzaminie maturalnym. Po wydrukowaniu, uzupełnieniu i podpisaniu, należy załączyć skan tego dokumentu w sekcji Additional Documents w formularzu aplikacyjnym Kastu. Dokument możesz pobrać tutaj.

Wynik testu językowego trzeba dostarczyć do 30 czerwca.
Spełnienie wymagań w zakresie języka angielskiego można udokumentować w jeden z następujących sposobów:
- IELTS – 6.0
- TOEFL – 80
- CV w języku angielskim
- Na świadectwie ukończenia liceum trzeba mieć ocenę przynajmniej 3 z matematyki (przedmiot ten nie musi być na rozszerzeniu).
- Matematyka musi być zdawana na maturze (na rozszerzeniu, na minimum 30%).

WHERE DO (OUR) GRADUATES WORK?
CONSULTANCY AGENCIES
Many applied mathematics specialists work at consultancy agencies dealing with logistical challenges. For example, ambulance services need their vehicles to arrive at their destination as quickly as possible. Logistical mathematics offers solutions by taking into account numerous criteria, such as the road, traffic density, ambulance availability and financial means.
RESEARCH INSTITUTES
Are you interested in scientific research? If you are, you can pursue a career in this direction at companies such as TNO and MARIN, but also at the university, of course. The department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Twente researches warning models for tsunamis, the rate of dune growth and erosion, plankton growth in lakes, the water levels in the Western Scheldt and tidal predictions as well as conducting research in the medical field, among other things.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
As an applied mathematician you can also work in research and development. Master's graduates from the University of Twente work at companies like the National Aerospace Laboratory and TNO (Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research). There they research a combination of effective numerical techniques and mathematical models and make it possible to calculate extremely complex air flows around aircraft wings, contributing to the design of energy-efficient wings and aerodynamic helicopter rotors that produce less noise, for instance.
