Today’s global environment demands interdisciplinary knowledge of politics, history, culture and language. Understandings of methods in political science, history, sociology, cultural analysis, intercultural communications and quality English are essential to many public and private sector jobs. Language and International Studies, English (LISE) at Aalborg University prepares you to be an informed, ethical actor in relation to ranges of issues in international politics and culture. LISE prepares you to continue your education in a range of MA degrees – from degrees focusing on international culture and communications to degrees focusing on development, international relations and regional studies.
Language and International Studies, English at Aalborg University is a three-year BA programme in the Department of Culture and Global Studies. The programme offers university-level English language skills and develops students’ ability to use English as the global lingua franca. The bulk of the programme, however, uses English to gain knowledge of important historical events for the twentieth and twenty-first century global environment and basic knowledge of twentieth and twenty-first century international affairs, intercultural relations and specific regional and topical issues. The programme also offers study abroad.
LISE maintains a highly regular structure over its semesters. Semesters are thematically organized. Language teaching is part of the first three semesters.
- 1st semester: International Studies
- 2nd semester: Discourse Studies
- 3rd semester: International Relations
- 4th semester: Cultural Globalisation
- 5th semester: Organizational Studies
- 6th semester: Bachelor Project focus – Geographical Region or Topical Issue plus Elective Courses.

LISE primarily prepares students to continue to an MA degree in ranges of fields from international politics to international cultural relations and communications.
LISE hopes its students will work in international aid or humanitarian organizations, international peace and conflict resolution or in the private sector in relation to communications, policy analysis or intercultural consultancy.
